Anacrusis Press

An anacrusis is the pickup note. The unstressed beat before the downbeat, the breath a player takes before the phrase properly begins. I spent a career as a bassist and Orchestra Director counting that beat for other people. It took me far longer to notice I'd been living in it, holding the breath, waiting for permission to start.

This press exists for the books that happen in that beat. The stories people carry for years before they find the nerve to say them out loud. The first title is mine. I built the press because I wanted the book to arrive exactly as written, with no one between the page and the reader deciding what was too much.

Anacrusis Press is an independent imprint.
